Our new Lupe Fiasco remix

Hey –

Just wanted to give you a heads up that we put out our new remix of Lupe Fiascos Kick, Push today. Weve always dug the rap on this track, but wanted to synth it up a bit and turn it into something a bit more fun for the dancefloor. You can check it out and download it on our soundcloud page (http://soundcloud.com/prettygirlsandlasers) or our website (http://www.prettygirlsandlasers.com). Hope you (and, if you deem it post-worthy, your readers) dig it.

In addition to the new remix, were throwing a party at Arlo & Esme in the East Village this coming Wednesday night (the 3rd). As always, its free to get in for people who RSVP, and vodka drinks are just $5 all night long. Should be a good time the flyer for the party is also on our website.

Talk to you soon,

The Deer Tracks are back with an EP (new track / free mp3)

The Deer Tracks are back!
Despotz Records share a free track [Mp3] and a “making of” documentary

Following up the acclaimed debut album ‘Aurora’ from last year, with the new EP called Eggegrund. Recorded in a crumbling lighthouse on the remote Swedish island of Eggegrund, just off their home city of Gavle, in eastern Sweden. The island is renowned for its fishing cabins and firehouses from a bygone age. Its influence has infused with the oscillating boy/girl interaction of David Lehnberg and Elin Lindfors spins an evocative web for their glitch-laden electronic backing. Arriving on the island in an old fishing boat and sailing through stormy weather, The Deer Tracks’ equipment didn’t all manage the journey, with David’s laptop succumbing to the elements en route. Pitching up a makeshift home in one of the cabins, with only a crackling wood fire for light, David and Elin locked themselves within the lighthouse and returned with these all new recordings.

“The sea and nature has always been in our thoughts when it comes to creating music and therefore we wanted to settle on this amazing island for a week. We went there in late August to experience the waves that collide against Eggegrund’s stones from all directions, and together we created these songs.” David & Elin / The Deer Tracks

The EP boasts four new tracks that reliably keep close to the winning formula that The Deer Tracks launched with – all frosty electronic lullabies warmed by Elin’s cooing vocal and collapsing into haunting, evocative crescendos. Fronted by the electro-strings fed ‘Bless The Waves’, the EP closes on ‘Isbjörnskatten’, which retells a famous Swedish fairytale of the same title, about a cat who wants to be an icebear. It is the first song that the duo have written in their native Swedish.

The Lonely Forest Sign To Chris Walla’s New Label Trans * On Tour Now, Playing SXSW

Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group Announce Partnership With Trans, Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie’s New Indie Label

The Lonely Forest Sign With Trans – On Tour Now, Playing SXSW, Sasquatch * New Record Summer/Fall

Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group is proud to announce a partnership with Trans Records, Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie’s new label. Walla’s first signing: The Lonely Forest. Based in the small town of Anacortes, WA, The Lonely Forest have taken the northwest by storm behind their independently released album We Sing The Body Electric!. The band’s shows in and around the Seattle and Portland areas have built a rabid fan-base culminating with sold out shows at Seattle’s Showbox Theatre last year and a coveted slot at the northwest’s premiere festival this May, Sasquatch. Walla initially approached the band about producing their next album, but soon decided to create the Trans imprint with ILG to release their records as well.

“I’ve been lucky enough to make records with tons of phenomenal bands, and I’ve considered [starting a label] a number of different times,” Walla tells The Stranger. “I don’t know—is it oversimplified to say it’s them and it just makes sense? This wouldn’t be happening if it weren’t for the Lonely Forest. They’re a phenomenal band. I’ve been following my nose for so many years, doing the things that felt like the right thing to do. And this time the answer was yes.”

The Lonely Forest – John Van Deusen (Vox/Guitar/Piano), Braydn Krueger (Percussion), Eric Sturgeon (Bass), Tony Ruland (Guitar) – is set to record their debut album for Trans with Chris Walla at studios in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland throughout April and May with the album slated for a late summer/early fall release. The band is currently on tour with We Were Promised Jetpacks (dates below) and will be playing a number of shows at SXSW 2010.

Club 8 – listen to the upcoming single

Hi Musikoon,

Club 8 returns with a new track influenced by Afrofunk, krautrock and high-life! “Western Hospitality” is the first taste of Club 8’s upcoming album The People’s Record due to be released on May 18 in the US.

The band has travelled to Brazil for inspiration, bought records made in the 70s in Western Africa, used a percussion player from Cuba and hooked up with producer Jari Haapalainen (The Concretes, Camera Obscura, Ed Harcourt). The result is unique mix of Swedish pop melodies and African rhythms – undoubtedly one of the most unique, captivating and catchiest pop records of the year!

“Secret Language” a pop song by Ghosty

Hello! Below you will find a link to download Ghosty’s ‘Secret Language,’ a pop song about basic urges, the powers that be, and their bullshit rules – first from a child’s point of view, then a grownup’s. Or maybe it’s about the kind of person that needs a set of rules and enforcers – teachers, parents, bosses, or saviors – to feel safe. Andrew Connor and David Wetzel trade lead vocal duty, and everything leads up to guitar and Farfisa organ solos at the apex of the tune. Please, take a listen.

Secret Language is from Ghosty’s "A Mystic’s Robe" EP. For a quick listen to the rest of the EP, you can go here.

“Influenced by the Beach Boys’ sunny-side-up vibe and lofty vocals, guitar-pop quintet GHOSTY beg for the summer soundtrack treatment with “Big Surrender,”-Entertainment Weekly

"Andrew Connor’s songs are finely wrought with bright, buoyant melodies over intricate, shifting structures that slip-slide around like the missing link between Emmitt Rhodes and Pavement." MOJO 4/5

“Lead single "Big Surrender" – "you don’t have to be a pessimist, no, no" – resembles a mix of The Shins and Pavement. Haunting, inescapably.” Chris Roberts-UNCUT 4/5

Ghosty, “Answers” “The second full-length album from this Lawrence, Kan., indie band retains the melodic tone of their debut, “Grow Up or Sleep In,” along with the same sort of witty lyrics.” Juliet Eilperin/Washington Post

"An elegant tuneful debut that nests happily in the same corner of indiedom as Fruit Bats, The Shins, Phantom Buffalo and on occasion the mighty (flaming) Lips themselves.” THE SUN

“Answers", sees the band taking on increasingly ambitious pop arrangements, especially in songs like “Dumbo Wins Again.” With a sturdy, crunched drum beat, bright, jangly guitars and the light warble of electric piano, the song teems with highly interwoven melodies and finely crafted vocal harmonies. Michael Katzif-NPR

"With a fully fledged sound that layers instruments galore and pays tribute to the sixties Wilson Beach Boys and other California elements, Ghosty share a retronuevo sense with the Coral and the Earlies, a celebration tinged with irony, of those halcyon days." Americana UK

"Ghosty sound like a mature, well crafted, fully grown into their skin band and their take on the American alt-rock is accessible enough to sell, poppy enough to catch on, odd enough to interest and hard enough for rock n roll. Top tunes, this one goes into the collection"UNPEELED

After two full length albums, a slew of EP’s, and several miles of tape, Ghosty is now putting the finishing touches on their latest short-form release, entitled "Team Up Again". This will be the third installment in a series of digital EPs released on the band’s own More Famouser Records imprint. In the Fall of 2010, a 12" vinyl LP release on More Famouser will collect the highlights of the Ghosty EP series, combined with unreleased tracks, to form the band’s third full-length album.

It’s fair to say that a sense of longing and reflection permeates Ghosty’s music. Members Connor, Nolte, Wetzel, Adams, Blanton, and Johnson aren’t sure why this is, but they continue this trend with their latest release. It would seem that Ghosty is simply attempting to understand its own inner child, ambitiously and optimistically hoping that through introspection they might stumble onto some universal truths and "connect" with other human beings with those same urges. Ghosty occasionally
fears that its devotion to /obsession with pop music has "gone too far" or is having an "irreversible corrosive impact" on other aspects of its life, but that’s probably just
Ghosty being paranoid.

Between years spent in both Lawrence, KS and Kansas City, MO, Ghosty has always managed to catch new hooks out of the air, and from these hooks, build tunes that are earnest and refreshing. Their songs have been known to posses powers to please your ear, arrest your indifference, jolt you from your routine, or overwhelm you with wistful sentimentality for days gone by. Their newest work is no exception. …At least that’s how Ghosty hopes you might feel. Thanks for listening!

Do you remember the first time?
The excitement you felt from the tape you stole from your older sister?
The moment when you first fell in love with pop music.

We wanted to make something that bright and pure. A pop music still blue-eyed, naive and and oh so young at heart. We were inspired by the things that brought us back to that feeling. The Style Council. The first summer with Charles and Sebastian in »Brideshead Revisited«. Prefab Sprout. Jimmy Connors last serve game against John McEnroe in the Wimbledon final in 1982. Emily Brontës »Wuthering Heights«.

These things have together coloured »Sebastian Said«,
the first taste from The Sonnets’ forthcoming album »Western Harbour Blue«.

New music “American in Me”

Hi all,

Heres a brand new single from independent Swedish artist Dear Martin, an artist with a good track-record when it comes to pod-casts and Swedish radio. Some say “electronic pop” Dear Martin himself just calls it pop. Whatever it is, it has “hit” written all over it. You can download the song in waw or Mp3 on the following link where you will find the radioedit as well as a remix: http://rcpt.yousendit.com/818178044/2b66fd3aa7d8b1ad27665a10e558da94

About Dear Martin:

It was when Pluto seized to be considered a planet and when everybody could be a star, that one of Sweden´s 71 858 persons by the name Martin decided to start treating himself a little better. Decided to like himself a bit more. Enough with compromises and an end to hesitation. No more a self criticism so harsh it burns out any creativity. It was the ending of depending on other peoples approval and the beginning of something greater. A beginning of Dear Martin.

So, Dear Martin, aka Björn Martin Edvardsson, releases an Ep. Five tracks about failures and urges. The record is titled “This is Wrong” but it feels so right. After a debut gig in San Francisco Dear Martin is doing gigs in Sweden. Reviews in press and radio talks about “beautiful pop songs that transcends all genres” and describes the music as “a mix between Jay-Jay Johanson and Junior Boys. Though much more interesting”. “Dear Martin I love you” is the Headline covering a full page in Metro, one of Swedens largest newspapers

Podcasts around the world starts spinning the music as well as Swedish radio. Then the work with putting together an album starts.

And time goes by. One looses track of the many bicycle trips to the studio through an ice cold Stockholm. By November there are a few songs written and dear Dear Martin travels to Gothenburg and Björn Synneby´s studio. Björn (of Pacific!) produced the the first Ep “This is Wrong” and together they chose two songs for the forth coming album; American in Me and He´s a Singer. The first track is an homage to those who dare, and it is the first single from the upcoming album the Dearest.
