Gloom-pop solo artist She Makes War is set to follow up on the sold-out success of her recent self-promoted “Little Battles” launch at the Half Moon, Herne Hill, with a bi-monthly gig series called “Breakfast With Apollo”.
SMW will present a handpicked bill of fantastic bands and artists with a view to promoting independence, community and collaboration, performing with a variety of special guests as well as members of the other artists on the bill. She Makes War is very proud to present:
The McCarricks are cellist Martin McCarrick and violinist Kimberlee McCarrick, performing dark, evocative, hypnotic, unsettling yet strangely beautiful music, drawing influences from Shostakovich to the Aphex Twin with a helping of Bernard Hermann.
The live performance sees The McCarricks playing their instruments in front of a film screen where shoppers in a Japanese supermarket mix with 1950’s slow-motion contortionists via buildings that harbour strange sexual desires, while a motley array of circus sideshow freaks act out a nightmarish fairytale resulting in a surrealistic finale.
Working extensively as studio and live musicians, individually and together – as instrumentalists, string/orchestral arrangers and soundtrack designers/composers, they are currently working on music for films and future performance. Between them The McCarricks have worked with a plethora of artists including Therapy?, Kristin Hersh, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sinead O’Connor, Gary Numan, Marianne Faithful, This Mortal Coil, Dead Can Dance, Marc Almond and Skunk Anansie.
Otti Albietz is a singer/songwriter with possible ‘Progressive-Traditional’ tendencies. Alongside collaborations (Harvey Summers/Darren Morris/MyEdelweiss/Aaron King/Hennes Volmer…) and a few past and present bands (UDVRD/Dusty Rosko/S.O.M/Sudden Walk), he has increasingly pursued a path as a singer and writer with an emphasis on one-on-one musical collaboration in the studio, and re-interpretational live performance.
His debut solo album ‘1’, was released on ‘Big Village Records’ in January 2011, and toured through central Europe in August 2011, visiting Frankfurt, Basel, Hamburg and Mullhouse.
Otti is recording his second album with producer Harvey Summers, due for release on vinyl and CD in September 2012.
