My names Giles, I work with a band called The Skints who characterise their sound as east London Reggae but in reality their music spans many more genres than the name implies,

They recently dropped a cover of Katy B’s track ‘On A Mission’. The cover received some seriously positive support, seeing Katy B, Skream and Benga, all getting behind it on twitter/facebook and commenting on how good of a twist the band had put on it. The track then got played by Huw Stephens on Radio 1 and later on 6 Music by Steve Lamacq.

I wanted to make sure I’d sent this over as hopefully you might like it and post it up for us!

The Skints are a rude reggae, ska & dub youth band from London. They mix Jamaican styles with pop hooks, grimey raps, filthy basslines and a punk rock work ethic to create a sound familiar to newcomers, yet unique below the surface.

This is what they had to say on covering Katy B…….

“We’re all pop music fans and obviously we like our sounds in a reggae-reggae style, so On A Mission seemed like a fun tune to cut a Skints version of. Garage, dubstep, reggae, dub, whatever, is all music of the dancehall! We rate the Katy B tune, so hopefully the people appreciate the vibes on the this one.”

The Skints define themselves as one of the British punk rock scene’s premier headlining artists, selling out London’s Barfly, Borderline, Gaff and Camden Underworld consecutively.

2011 has seen East London’s finest across Europe with Reel Big Fish and currently in the studio with renowned reggae/dub/pop producer Prince Fatty (Lily Allen/Gregory Isaacs/Sugar Hill Gang) as well as numerous festival appearances. Instead of looking for ‘traditional’ label backing, The Skints started a campaign through Pledge Music in which fans could financially contribute towards the recording of their new album in return for a number of different exclusive rewards. Although they were given 90 days in which to raise the money needed to record the album, 100% of funds were reached in just 11.

In the build up to what is arguably the most anticipated album in British reggae, The Skints are showing no signs of slowing up or backing down to anyone and are cementing their place at the forefront of contemporary UK reggae.

The album’s will be released January 19th in Chicago & January 31st Worldwide on CD, Itunes, Amazon, Bandcamp & Google Music

The album was recorded this record mostly live in a wood panel laundry room with a large bottle of bourbon. It got pretty rowdy.

the last half of the session.

Bio

In the short year that they have been together, Chicago indie/Americana outfit Dastardly has garnered a reputation for being able to pack in some of the finest clubs in their hometown including the Metro, Schubas and Lincoln Hall. Their first album, “May You Never…” was released on December 9th to much critical acclaim. Mixed by Paul Klimson (The Roots, John Legend, The Jimmy Fallon), the disc was named CD of the Month by the Deli Chicago and Music You Must Hear Now by the Red Eye. In the upcoming year, Dastardly will be touring the country extensively (in one form or another) to support their new release.

This is the season of LOTS of covers of songs youve heard MANY times before. Rather than do their take on Carol of the Bells, Frosty the Snowman or Silent Night, The Active Set decided to give the gift of POP with an original Christmas tune. I hope you find this worth sharing with your readers, and agree with what the song claims is TRULY the best part of Christmas

Morning Everyone!

Good LORD its got chilly hasn’t it!! Hope you’re all warm…I sit shivering at my kitchen table in the mean time.

First off we’re thrilled to be announcing the first date of 2012! We’re headlining the Jazz Cafe on Feb 8th as part of Moshi Moshi’s night in the, ‘HMV Next Big Thing’ festival! YOU CAN GET TICKETS HERE but let me assure you that the line up is beyond STELLAR. Fiction, Two Wounded Birds and Psychologist no less so snap up those tickets! Only a tenner I think!

And then to our final show of the year, at the Tunbridge Wells Forum this friday! Featuring the creme de la creme of tunbridge wells music we’ve got Hymmel, Standard Lamps, and Stray Dogs supporting!
